Appropriate song title for this time of year. I've been listening to this song on loop lately- especially the version in the museum scene of Ferris Bueller's Day Off by Dream Academy:
mp3: Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
And then Michelle reminded me that this was originally by The Smiths:
mp3: Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you get what you want.

Song of the Week- Wichita Lineman
This is probably the song I've listened to most this year. It's just one of those songs that takes me someplace unique. Thanks for introducing me to it, Rian.

edit- Here's another version I stumbled on by Dennis Brown that I also like:

Michael Hedges
I've been rediscovering Michael Hedges lately. I grew up listening to his album, "Live on the Double Planet". Below are two videos- One of my favorite song of his- "Two Days Old", and a cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I really like the melodic changes he makes to the chorus of the latter.

Artists of the Week- Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach
Two of my favorite songwriters - Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach - teamed up in 1998 to record an album together called Painted From Memory. The results were more than satisfying. Both masters of composing pop melodies, their talents combined well. Bacharach's trademark brass sound mixes perfectly with Costello's gritty-yet-delicate vocals. Below is a highlight of the album - God Give Me Strengh, and two favorite cuts from their solo careers.
